Mogadishu – The Turkish Ambassador to Somalia, Alper Aktas, on Tuesday received Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Somalia, Ahmed Mohammed Al-Muwallad, at the Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu, where the two diplomats discussed the overall situation in the country and avenues for enhanced cooperation in support of Somalia.
During the meeting, both envoys agreed to coordinate efforts aimed at strengthening security and stability, with Ambassador Aktas reaffirming Turkey’s readiness to work closely with friendly nations to promote sustainable security and comprehensive development in Somalia.
The talks come amid continued diplomatic engagement by both Turkey and Saudi Arabia, which have recently voiced strong support for Somalia’s unity and sovereignty, while firmly opposing Israel’s recognition of the Somaliland region.
The meeting reflects a growing convergence between Ankara and Riyadh on Somalia, particularly at a time when regional alignments are increasingly shaped by Red Sea security dynamics and questions of sovereignty. Coordinated Turkish-Saudi engagement could contribute to reducing political fragmentation and security uncertainty in Somalia, especially if translated into practical support for state institutions and stabilization efforts.
