Mogadishu – A spokesperson for the Somali Federal Government confirmed the existence of a trilateral security agreement under negotiation between Somalia, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. The accord, still in its final stages, aims to enhance strategic cooperation on Red Sea security, expand military collaboration, and strengthen the joint regional role of the three nations.

Sources indicate that Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is expected to travel to Saudi Arabia in the coming days to finalize the agreement. Officials describe the initiative as a critical step toward consolidating Somalia’s regional security partnerships and ensuring federal oversight of strategic operations.

The new alliance follows Somalia’s recent termination of all security and port agreements with the United Arab Emirates, citing violations of national sovereignty and territorial integrity, including the unauthorized transfer of a Yemeni separatist leader through Somali territory.

Analysts suggest that the emerging trilateral arrangement could significantly stabilize the Red Sea corridor, reduce unilateral foreign influence in Somalia, and reinforce the federal government’s authority in managing security threats. If implemented effectively, the alliance may mitigate regional uncertainties and foster stronger coordination on counterterrorism and maritime security.
