Mogadishu (SPT) – Somalia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ishaq Mahmoud Marsal, met with senior United Nations envoys to discuss evolving security and political dynamics in the Horn of Africa.
The meeting at the Ministry in Mogadishu included the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Guang Kong, and the UN Special Representative in Somalia, James Swan. Also present were the ministry’s permanent undersecretary, Hamza Adam Hado, the Director-General for East Africa Affairs, and several senior officials.
Discussions focused on the changing dynamics in the Horn of Africa, with both sides emphasizing the importance of peace, stability, and regional cooperation. Deputy Minister Marsal reiterated the Somali federal government’s readiness to play a constructive role in advancing regional security and peace initiatives.
The meeting also highlighted the need for improved coordination of international efforts and underscored the pivotal role of African regional and continental organizations in achieving lasting stability and sustainable peace.
The engagement demonstrates Somalia’s proactive diplomatic approach in regional security and underscores the country’s alignment with international partners to address complex political and security challenges.
