Mogadishu – The Somali Federal Parliament approved the national budget for the 2026 fiscal year on Tuesday following a joint vote by members of the House of the People and the Upper House.
A total of 179 lawmakers from both chambers attended the parliamentary session. According to the Speaker of the House of the People, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madobe), 174 members voted in favor of the budget, four voted against it, and one lawmaker abstained.
Prior to the vote, the parliamentary finance committee presented the proposed budget to members of both chambers during earlier sessions, outlining the government’s spending priorities for the coming year. Following parliamentary approval, the budget will be submitted to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud for ratification, in accordance with the law.
The Ministry of Finance welcomed the passage of the budget, expressing appreciation to both chambers of parliament for endorsing the proposal submitted through the finance committee and subsequently debated in parliament.
The approval of the 2026 budget represents a key step in the government’s fiscal planning process and is expected to guide public expenditure, development priorities, and service delivery across the country in the year ahead.
From a policy perspective, the budget provides a critical fiscal framework to support governance reforms, public service delivery, and broader state-building objectives.
