Mogadishu (SPT) – The Council of Ministers of the Federal Government of Somalia has decided to remove the serving Chief of the Somali National Army and appoint a new commander, following a cabinet meeting held in Mogadishu. The decision reflects a shift in military leadership amid evolving national security priorities.

Officials indicated that the leadership change is intended to strengthen command effectiveness and improve coordination within the armed forces, as the government continues to address security challenges across several regions of the country.

The newly appointed Army Commander is a senior military officer with prior experience in national defence leadership and operational command. Government officials emphasized that the appointment is based on professional considerations and the need to enhance operational readiness.

The cabinet decision comes at a critical time as Somalia intensifies efforts to stabilize security conditions and reinforce state institutions. Authorities reiterated their commitment to ensuring continuity, discipline, and effectiveness within the Somali National Army.
