Mogadishu (SPT)— The Federal Cabinet of Somalia convened its regular session, during which ministers approved the formation of a new high-level committee tasked with coordinating nationwide efforts to prevent human smuggling. The committee is mandated to enhance inter-ministerial coordination, improve enforcement mechanisms, and address the humanitarian and security risks associated with irregular migration.

The session also focused on the country’s security situation, particularly ongoing operations to reclaim areas where Al-Shabaab militants have been active. Ministers reviewed progress in stabilization efforts and discussed measures to sustain pressure on the group and prevent its re-emergence in newly liberated Areas.

The Council of Ministers commended Somali security forces for recent military gains, notably the recapture of Jabad-Godane. The Cabinet noted that the operation resulted in significant losses for militant elements and described it as an important step toward restoring security and stability in the affected areas.

In addition to security and migration issues, the Cabinet approved a number of governance measures, including regulatory frameworks for international mediation institutions and a new regulation governing the registration and oversight of maritime transport vessels. Officials stated that these approvals are intended to strengthen institutional coordination, improve regulatory oversight, and support national resilience.
