Mogadishu – Reports emerging from Garowe, the capital of Puntland State, indicate that clashes broke out overnight between different units of Puntland security forces, leading to casualties.
According to the reports, the fighting erupted after Puntland’s Darawish forces attacked a police station in an attempt to free two detainees. The assault was met with resistance from police officers guarding the facility, triggering an exchange of fire.
The Governor of Nugal region in Puntland, Abdirahman Haji Absher, confirmed to media outlets that one soldier was killed and two others were wounded among the attackers. He stated that the situation has since stabilized.
The regional governor added that calm has been restored in Garowe and that all forces involved have withdrawn back to their respective barracks, with no further incidents reported.
