Mogadishu – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud  held a telephone conversation with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, focusing on ways to deepen bilateral relations and broaden cooperation between the two countries in strategic sectors.

According to a statement issued by the Somali Presidency, the two leaders discussed enhancing cooperation in peace and security, trade, investment, and regional stability, within a broader effort to advance shared interests and promote African-led solutions to common challenges.

During the call, Presidents Mohamud and Ramaphosa exchanged views on key regional and continental developments, reaffirming their shared commitment to African solidarity and cooperation through the African Union. Both leaders stressed the importance of collective action in advancing peace, development, and prosperity across the continent.

President Ramaphosa reiterated South Africa’s continued support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, underlining Pretoria’s longstanding engagement in Somalia’s stabilization and state-building efforts.

President Mohamud welcomed South Africa’s support and highlighted Somalia’s interest in expanding economic cooperation, as well as benefiting from South Africa’s experience in institutional development and post-conflict reconstruction.

The exchange underscores Somalia’s broader diplomatic strategy of reinforcing partnerships within Africa at a time when national security reform and economic recovery remain top priorities. Engagement with South Africa—one of the continent’s key political and economic actors—signals Mogadishu’s intent to anchor its foreign policy within African frameworks, strengthen continental cooperation, and contribute to a more coordinated approach to peace and stability across the region.
