Somalia has officially been allowed to take its seats in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) after a court ruling overturned previous restrictions, marking a milestone for regional cooperation and legislative influence.

News Body:
Mogadishu – Somali representatives have been granted full participation in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) following a decision by the East African Court of Appeal, which overturned earlier rulings that had prevented their involvement.

The ruling ends a long-standing dispute over Somalia’s nominations and opens the way for the country’s complete engagement in the regional legislative process.

Somalia’s Ambassador to Tanzania and the East African Community, Elyas Ali Hassan, welcomed the decision, describing it as a victory for the rule of law and an important step toward deeper regional integration. He emphasized that the ruling aligns with broader Somali efforts to strengthen its influence within the East African Community.

Analysts suggest that Somalia’s full participation in EALA enhances its ability to shape regional policies, provides a stronger voice in legislative initiatives, and signals a growing role for the country in promoting political and economic cooperation across East Africa.
