Las Anod – Ambassadors of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Sudan arrived on Tuesday in the city of Las Anod to participate in the inauguration ceremony of the President of Somalia’s Northeast State, Abdulqadir Ahmed, widely known as “Firdhiye.”
The arrival of these ambassadors, alongside other delegations including a delegation from the Republic of Djibouti, is seen as a clear indication of diplomatic backing for the current political process in the Northeast State, as well as ongoing efforts to advance state-building, peace, and stability.
The countries represented by the visiting ambassadors are among those that have publicly opposed Israel’s reported move toward recognizing Somaliland. Their presence in Las Anod is widely interpreted as a message of support for the unity of the Federal Republic of Somalia and the integrity of its territorial sovereignty.
Senior Somali officials, led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, had arrived in Las Anod in recent days to attend the inauguration ceremony of the Northeast State president.
The event carries particular significance as it is being held in Las Anod, a city located in territory previously claimed by Somaliland, the former British protectorate. The strong participation of federal leaders and diplomats from Somalia’s partner countries is viewed as underscoring federal authority in the area, while implicitly challenging separatist narratives promoted by the administration in Hargeisa.
