Mogadishu – Thousands of people took to the streets of the Somali capital on Sunday in what observers described as the largest public demonstration opposing Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, a move widely viewed as an infringement on Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The protest began with the singing of the Somali national anthem, followed by chants emphasizing national unity and rejecting any attempt to divide the country. Demonstrators carried placards and banners declaring that Somalia is indivisible and reaffirming that Somaliland remains an integral part of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

Participants strongly condemned Israel’s decision, accusing it of undermining Somalia’s unity and violating international law. Protesters stressed that Somalia would never surrender any part of its territory and expressed determination to defend national sovereignty through peaceful and lawful means.

Political observers noted that the scale of the demonstration reflects growing public mobilization around issues of sovereignty and territorial integrity. The protest is expected to add pressure on Somali leaders to intensify diplomatic efforts at regional and international levels to counter unilateral actions affecting Somalia’s unity.
