New York – Somalia’s Ambassador to the United Nations Security Council has issued a formal warning to Israel, cautioning against any actions that violate the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia. The warning comes amid heightened diplomatic tensions following Israel’s controversial position regarding Somaliland.

Addressing members of the Security Council, the Somali envoy emphasized that Somalia remains a sovereign UN member state, whose internationally recognized borders must be respected in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter. The ambassador underscored that any unilateral recognition or engagement undermining Somalia’s territorial unity constitutes a dangerous precedent.

The Somali representative also highlighted the broader implications of such actions for regional peace and security, particularly in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region. He urged the international community to uphold established legal frameworks and to reject moves that could destabilize an already fragile region.

Somalia’s mission to the United Nations reaffirmed Mogadishu’s commitment to resolving disputes through diplomatic and lawful means, while calling on the Security Council to remain vigilant in defending the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and peaceful coexistence among states.
