Mogadishu – President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, on Sunday strongly denounced the decision by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who announced last Friday Israel’s recognition of the so-called Somaliland entity. The President described the move as a serious violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and a direct threat to regional stability in the Horn of Africa.
Speaking before an extraordinary joint session of the Somali Federal Parliament, President Hassan Sheikh characterized the decision as an “open invasion” and the “most serious violation” of Somalia’s territorial unity, stressing that the Somali state will never accept the unlawful decision under any circumstances.
“This reckless step fuels terrorist groups and undermines peace and stability in the region,” the President said, explicitly warning against what he described as the export of Israeli aggressive actions into Somalia, a development he cautioned could have far-reaching consequences for regional security.
President Hassan Sheikh also reaffirmed Somalia’s firm opposition to the forced displacement of Palestinians, whether to Somali territory or elsewhere, reiterating Mogadishu’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause. He called for renewed international commitment to the two-state solution as the only viable and sustainable path toward lasting peace between Israel and Palestine.
In an additional warning to the international community, the President emphasized that Somalia’s position is firmly grounded in international law, which recognizes Somaliland as an inseparable part of the Federal Republic of Somalia. He urged global actors to reject any unilateral measures that undermine existing borders, violate regional agreements, and threaten the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
