Mogadishu – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has begun a series of consultations aimed at strengthening national unity in response to what Somali authorities describe as Israeli aggression against the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, following Israel’s unlawful recognition claim concerning the so-called Somaliland entity.
As part of these efforts, the President held meetings with opposition leaders, including former national leaders and prominent political figures, to reinforce Somalia’s unity, independence, and national solidarity. The consultations sought to foster a shared national position that rises above political divisions.
Discussions focused on the overall national situation, particularly issues related to safeguarding Somalia’s national identity and territorial integrity, and confronting what was described as an overt violation of sovereignty. Emphasis was placed on the importance of national consensus and political unity in addressing external challenges.
President Hassan Sheikh praised the role of former leaders and senior political figures in providing guidance to the nation, stressing that defending Somalia’s unity and independence is a collective responsibility that transcends political differences. He underlined the need for Somalis to unite their efforts and perspectives in defense of the country.
In the same context, the President also held meetings with members of both chambers of parliament representing northern regions, as well as with Somali religious scholars. These engagements were accompanied by telephone consultations with regional and international leaders and global organizations as part of ongoing diplomatic outreach.
