Garowe, Somalia – Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni will seek the presidency of Somalia for the second time in elections scheduled for next year, regional officials confirmed.
Puntland’s Minister of Information, Mahmoud Aidid Dirir, confirmed the announcement, noting that Deni’s ongoing military campaign against ISIS militants in the mountainous areas of Bari region has become a central theme of his campaign.
“Puntland’s government, a pillar of defense and development, is ready to save the Somali state. Just as former President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed once did, President Said Abdullahi Deni will do so again,” Minister Dirir declared.
He added that Deni remains the most accomplished Somali leader in recent history, saying: “No Somali leader has a stronger record of achievements than the President of Puntland. That is why Somalis today need Said Abdullahi Deni.”
Deni previously competed in the May 15, 2022 presidential elections in Mogadishu, where he secured third place, following President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.
