Somalia Executes Two Al-Shabaab Members Convicted of Deadly Bombings and Assassinations

Mogadishu – A Somali military court on Monday executed two men convicted of carrying out bombings and targeted killings on behalf of the militant group Al-Shabaab.

Officials identified the executed men as Anas Abdulkadir Ali Mahmoud, known as “Salman,” and Adam Mursal Mohamed Idoo. Both were executed by firing squad in Mogadishu.

The court found them guilty of planning and executing a series of deadly attacks, including targeted assassinations of civilians and government officials, as well as multiple bombings across Somalia.

They were also implicated in a terrorist attack in the city of Galkayo, Puntland, which killed prominent community leaders, including elders and traditional figures.

According to military prosecutors, the two men actively participated in atrocities and acts of intimidation against civilians. After reviewing the evidence and hearing witness testimonies, the court sentenced them to death, and the execution was carried out in accordance with the ruling.

Al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda affiliate, continues its insurgency against Somalia’s federal government despite ongoing military operations aimed at dismantling its network.
