Overview

The Voter Education and Engagement Program by Somali Policy Talk (SPT) strengthens democratic participation by equipping citizens with the knowledge, skills, and platforms needed to make informed electoral choices. The program combines community outreach, media campaigns, and targeted leadership development to promote accountable and inclusive electoral processes across Somalia.

Program Objectives

  • Increase Voter Awareness: Educate citizens about voting rights, election procedures, and the role of elections in governance and stability.
  • Promote Inclusive Participation: Encourage the participation of women, youth, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups so every voice is represented.
  • Strengthen Democratic Values: Foster trust, transparency, and accountability between citizens and electoral institutions.
  • Combat Electoral Misinformation: Deliver clear, factual, and accessible information to counteract false narratives and build election credibility.

Key Activities

  • Community Workshops & Dialogues: On-the-ground trainings, town-hall discussions, and debate sessions to reach urban and rural populations.
  • Media & Digital Campaigns: Radio, TV, and social media outreach delivering voter information in Somali and locally relevant formats.
  • Youth & Women Leadership Forums: Empower emerging leaders to advocate for voter participation and civic rights within their communities.
  • Election Observation & Voter Feedback: Partner with civil society and observers to monitor processes and gather citizen feedback for public reporting.

Expected Outcomes

  • Higher voter turnout and measurable increases in civic participation.
