Overview

The Community Participation in Local Governance program by Somali Policy Talk (SPT) empowers citizens to actively engage in decision-making processes at the local level. The program focuses on fostering transparency, accountability, and inclusion in governance structures, ensuring that communities play a meaningful role in shaping policies and public services that affect their daily lives.

Program Objectives

  • Promote Citizen Engagement: Encourage community members to participate in local councils, planning committees, and public consultations.
  • Enhance Transparency & Accountability: Provide tools and knowledge to monitor local government decisions and public spending.
  • Foster Inclusive Decision-Making: Ensure participation of women, youth, and marginalized groups in local governance processes.
  • Strengthen Civic Knowledge: Educate citizens about their rights and responsibilities in local governance and service delivery.

Key Activities

  • Community Forums & Town-Hall Meetings: Facilitate discussions between local authorities and citizens to address community needs.
  • Workshops & Capacity Building: Train community leaders and members on governance structures, budgeting, and public service monitoring.
