The Elders are the custodians of Somali history, wisdom, and culture. Yet today, many face neglect, abuse, and exclusion. The Somali Elder Abuse Prevention Project is an SPT human rights initiative that not only safeguards the dignity and protection of older people but also connects generations, ensuring that youth inherit the knowledge, stories, and experiences of those who came before them. Through advocacy, education, and community engagement, the project envisions a society where elders are respected, protected, and valued as living libraries of history and guidance, while youth are empowered to carry forward their wisdom into the future. 1. Protection and Rights Advocacy: We champion the rights of elders, preventing abuse and ensuring their voices are respected in society and governance.
2. Community Awareness & Education: Raising awareness through campaigns, dialogues, and education to build respect and dignity for elders in Somali communities.
3. Intergenerational Knowledge Sharing: Creating platforms for youth to learn from elders’ wisdom, preserving heritage, history, and valuable life experiences.
4. Support Services & Care: Providing access to support systems, counseling, and care that ensure elders live in dignity, safety, and wellbeing.
5. Policy Influence & Partnerships: Working with government and civil society partners to establish policies that protect elders and strengthen their human rights.
